Team In Training (TNT) began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon in honor of Cleland’s daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.
The team of 38 runners raised $322,000 for LLS’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world’s largest endurance sports training program. Cleland was honored by Runner’s World magazine in 2004 as one of their “Heroes of Running” for his role in establishing TNT.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) offers hands-on training unlike any other program. You’ll get more help than with other charities, gyms, online training programs or sports clubs. We’re an established network of coaches, mentors and teammates, built by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the past 22 years.
We set your training regimen. We advise you on nutrition and injury prevention. We hold weekly team workouts to encourage one another and stay on track.
TNT trains for events around the country and abroad. Challenge yourself to complete a marathon, half marathon, triathlon, hiking event or 100 mile bike ride. Pick the event that suits you. Travel to a destination with your team for a weekend. Or gear up for a local event closer to home.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training ® (TNT) program offers various endurance-sport programs to help you reach your goal.
Participants can choose to run or walk a marathon or half marathon, swim, bike and run a triathlon, embark on a century bike ride (100 miles) or set out on a hike adventure.

Team In Training® (TNT) has more than 1,100 coaches working throughout the United States and Canada to help get participants in proper shape to complete a marathon, half-marathon, hiking adventure, triathlon or 100-mile (century) bicycle ride. They are a resource for every facet of the TNT experience, from purchasing the right apparel to improving racing technique and diet.
Coaches travel with their teams to each event and are along the race route to encourage and guide the athletes. The program’s head coaches include some of the nation’s top endurance sports innovators.
